GalaxyCon Minneapolis Recap

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Well, I had an amazing time at this event. I nearly sold out of books and met a ridiculous amount of great people. I was actually brave enough to ask attendees for pictures of their cosplay, as you can notice above with the awesome Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Knight of Ni was massive, he like towered over me.This whole post will be filled with these photos plus my descriptions of them and whatnot. Enjoy, and thank you everyone for the pics.

One Punch Man

One of my favorite anime characters One Punch Man was kind enough to do this photo. Gren (one of my four-year-old-twins) actually recognized him, though I’ve never let him watch it because people explode in clouds of guts. Anyways, I was able to talk to him about how One Punch Man breaks a ton of tropes in the genre.

Mr. Freeze

One of my favorite villians from all of Batman. He actually had a microphone hooked up to it as well for full effect. Mr. Freeze always made me depressed because he was one of those complex, tortured villains.

Wyborn

I was super excited to see this Cosplay. I love Coraline and I just watched it for Halloween. This Wyborn outfit was super cool. I couldn’t figure out what it was until he pulled the mask down. It made my day.

Walter

Big fan of this movie. I’ve watched it a ridiculous amount of times. I quote Walter endlessly as well. Few things beat The Big Lebowski. All I could think when I was taking this picture was: “Mark it zero!” or “You’re entering a world of pain, son.”

Steven Universe

Had to get one of this Steven Universe cosplay. My family and I watch this show pretty religiously. Here we have Pearl and Amethyst. There are very few programs that are completely family friendly, but this one does it all.

Oogy Bogey

Another little shout-out to Halloween. This Oogey Bogey from the Nightmare Before Christmas was fantastic. I suggested having real bugs in pouches to drop out on random con goers. The cosplayer didn’t really reply to that idea…

Cloud

Had to include one of my favorite video game characters, Cloud, from Final Fantasy VII. The sword alone must’ve cost a fortune to make. Cloud was such an influencing force on what a hero could mean to me from when I was young. He was flawed, a liar, but wanted to do the right thing no matter the cost.

Dc Heroes

Here we got the classic DC heroes. They honestly looked real enough to kick some ass. I do love the DC universe as well. I tend to lean more towards Marvel. Still, amazing cosplay.

Star Trek Writer

This one really cracked me up. It was cosplay for a writer from the original Star Trek series. He actually had a working typewriter with him too, which many people were geeking out over.

Fetts

I’ve always been a sucker for Fetts from the Star Wars universe. What I loved especially about this photo was the Unicorn version of the Mandalorian battle armor. It was a great twist to a classic costume.

Duel Wolverines

Had to get this photo of the duel Wolverines. One of my favorite comic characters ever, plus the claws were real metal. Nightcrawler is still my favorite X-Men.

Star Wars

These were really detailed up close. The Darth Vader was very tall as well. Earlier in the event I met a shorter Vader, which I didn’t find to be very intimidating. The tall one though, well, I felt like he could Force choke me at any moment.

Thor and Valkyrie

Some great Thor and Valkyrie cosplay. It was also the sad Thor from the latest Avengers movie. He was worthy enough to wield both hammers as well.

Family photo

And the final photo, my family and I meeting Richard Horvitz the voice of Invader Zim. I’m a huge fan of this series. I still watch it. Meeting him was on my bucket list. Even more insane was the I thought for the role he was played up his voice to create Zim, but that was just his normal tone. He is Zim. That blew my mind. Mr. Horvitz was a great guy too, very personable. He even did an Angry Beaver impression that made one of the twins giggle.

So all in all, I had an amazing time at GalaxyCon, Minneapolis. I will for certain be back next year for it. This was an excellent event. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was well-run, professional, and easy to navigate. If you’re in the Twin Cities next November and you’re planning on trying out a convention, make it this one. Thank you everyone for the continued support. Have a great rest of your week!
