Ramblings 10.11

  • Metroid Dread is in my possession. I have not played it yet, but I will. I’m going to savor every second of that game, because Metroid is one of my favorite games/series/worlds ever. The music, levels, atmosphere, character design, I could go on and on. I replayed Super Metroid about three years ago on my 3DS. The game still holds up. I was thoroughly addicted to it. Nothing had changed from fourth grade Patrick who bought it at Target with his Christmas money.
  • Getting closer and closer to the new season of Hidden Oaks dropping on Halloween. I highly recommend binging season one and two. There is also a bunch of content between seasons. Catch up now. Do it here. My monster is calling your name.
  • Finished Ted Lasso season two. I of course had too much to drink before we watched it, and passed out for most of the last episode, but I was cognitive enough to be a little invested. Still a great show. Has a more realistic expectation for positivity, which I appreciate. Having gone through a fair amount of traumatic stuff, I have had plenty of people tell me to “stay positive” well in the weeds of it. That advice always irritated me, because it oversimplifies how complex the problems are, and is therefore unrealistic. If staying positive were an end all philosophy, the world would be built of donuts and rainbows. Reality is more complicated than that, so generalizations aren’t always helpful, despite the best intentions.
  • Keep hammering away at writing. Every day, between tests and tasks at work, on my breaks, lunch, all of it. I just keep smacking that anvil, bending metal, forging it, shaping it, to whatever end. I do believe, a little bit at this point, that I’m an okay writer. However, I know for certain that I’m a hardworking writer. I will do what it takes to create a good story. I won’t give up. I’ll keep going. Recently, I have learned that unless I do some writing each day I turn into a crabby ogre. Fun times.
  • What are some of your favorite Halloween pieces of media to watch during this lovely season? My wife and I always play Luigi’s Mansion on the Switch. We watched all of the new season of What We Do in the Shadows. Already did a Nightmare Before Christmas, Over the Garden Wall, and we save Hocus Pocus for Halloween night. Any other kid friendly suggestions that are a bit spooky? Let me know in the comments.
  • I’m not sure what’s happening to me, but I think I’m getting older. Recently my wife bought me a nice gas grill for cooking outside. I’m in love with the thing. It is so fast and easy, I can make food for my family relatively quickly. For six people at a time that is pretty great. I feel like I’m becoming more dad everyday. I suppose that is natural or what’s supposed to happen, but that doesn’t make it any less hilarious or, almost, menacing?
  • Thank you everyone for reading my work. Please review it at the places that matter like Goodreads, Amazon, and so forth. Reviews help me become more visible in the algorithmic wasteland of the modern internet. Buy my books at my online bookstore where I actually get the whole cut. Support me on Patreon. I have given up feeling ashamed about peddling myself. Self-promotion has worn me down like a molecular acid. Buy my books. Buy my books. Buy. Them. Now.
