Law of Equivalent Exchange Applies to Writing

Equivalent Exchange: “In order to obtain or create something, something of equal value must be lost or destroyed.”

I find this law from Alchemy to really apply to writing in a variety of situations. It can be applied to killing characters, dissolving settings, or even scrapping one project for another. You could take it further and even examine your own personal life with writing and the objects you’ve given up to pursue your passion. Whenever I start a writing project, I keep this quote in mind, in that something inside my process must die — for it to live.
